Kali war plays season callout for scripts from South Asian women writers (£1,500)

In spring 2018, the year of the 100th anniversary of the end of World War One, Kali will present a high profile season of staged readings in London.

New plays by South Asian women will be presented on the theme of women’s experiences or untold stories from war or conflict across the globe.

Eligibility:

  • Kali is inviting UK based women writers of South Asian descent to submit new plays relating to this theme for inclusion in the season.  This means at least one parent must be descended from the diasporas of the Indian subcontinent.
  • Writers must be eligible to live and work in the UK, have had at least one previous play publically presented and be available to attend development meetings and workshops in London in autumn 2017.

What you get: Plays will be selected by a readers panel. Selected writers will be offered a £1,500 seed corn commission fee plus support from a dramaturg and a 2 day workshop with actors to support the development and extending of their script for the season.

What to submit: Submitted plays may be initial drafts but must be at least 1 hour long (Approx 50 A4 pages) and capable of being performed by no more than 6 actors.

The selection process will be anonymous so your script must not include your name within the text, any headers or the file name.

Please ensure the full name of the play is in the file name.  Only Word, RTF or PDF files accepted.

Please send your script with a covering email clearly stating your full name, postal address, phone number and confirming you have UK residency. Only one script can be submitted per writer.

How to apply: Please send your script to chris@kalitheatre.co.uk

Deadline: Monday 5 June 2017 at 5pm
