This retreat is run by Vesna Hauschild in a peaceful and inspirational hotel surrounded by beautiful nature with great food and lots of exciting things to do in free time (yoga, hiking, trips to the lake, Tiger reserve …) in Kumily makes for a perfect playwriting retreat where you will have the opportunity to learn the skills, get a feedback from an expert, work on your own ideas and craft and share it all with fellow writers within one week’s time.

You will learn: how to write great dialogue and monologue, choose the right setting and structure for your play, create intriguing and rich characters, brainstorm for ideas (plots), analyse different play texts, accomplish an individual original short play or work on a full-length play with one-to-one professional assistance of the workshop leader.

Length: 7 days, 3 hrs per day group work/lessons + daily one-on-one consultations and individual work.

There is no age limit. The spaces for this programme are limited, so please make sure you register early. 

Suitable for: Everyone who shares the passion for writing, has little or a lot or no experience with theatre, but wishes to develop or improve their skills and expand the knowledge on playwriting craft, share ideas, create in a non-stressful and supportive environment and dedicate a few hours every day to group work and individual writing tasks.

Outcome: Each participant will come up with an original draft for a full-length play or a short play of their own and learn essential elements of playwriting that can then be applied to individual writing (for a play of any length) once the workshop is completed. There will be opportunity for rehearsed reading of produced work with the group on the last day.

About the workshop leader: Vesna Hauschild is a billingual playwright and a performer from Slovenia who works between Ljubljana and London. She holds a BA degree in dramaturgy and MA degree in playwriting. In 2013 she won National playwriting award at the festival Week of Slovenian drama and this season her play Inventory has been produced at National theatre SNG DRAMA LJUBLJANA in 2015/16. She has written short and full length plays that have been produced in Slovenia and in the UK. She also created a solo travel performance and engaged in many improv sessions. Her passion is devised theatre. In winter 2016 Vesna has been granted a cultural residency in the UK by Ministry of culture in Slovenia. She is currently a reviewer of London theatre shows and leader of various drama clubs for children, teenagers, adults with learning difficulties and seniors in London. She worked as a reviewer/reader for Bush theatre and published numerous play analyses and theatre-related articled in Slovenian theatres’ programmes. Vesna is currently working on a new dramedy about marriage, and on a multi-media performance about nature.
