Looking for a supportive, rigorous environment to develop your new play?
LPW’s summer Play Development Workshop is a seven-week course that will support writers in developing a play project, providing supportive critique in a weekly group setting.
Each week, the participants will bring in a selection of writing of up to five pages to share with the group. The work will be read aloud and discussed, with feedback offered by the group and Workshop Leader to help develop the piece.
The sessions will be tailored to the participants, and writers will have the freedom to choose what they bring in to class. While the occasional in-class writing exercise may be offered (time allowing) or specific writing prompts may be given to individual writers to develop their work, this will all centre around the development of the core creative idea.
Who this workshop is for
This workshop is for intermediate and advanced level writers. A basic knowledge of playwriting (including dialogue and characterization) is presumed.
The Play Development Workshop is targeted at writers with an idea for a full-length play they want to develop over a series of weeks. Writers will have weekly deadlines to spur them to write, but a self-motivated approach to writing is presumed.
This workshop is not appropriate for people new to playwriting, or those who prefer an exercise-led approach to their work.
