Opportunities: Our Pick of the Week – The Nickelodeon Writing Program

Each week we look through our pile of writing opportunities to pick out one we think is particularly worth your time. It could be an innovative brief, great prize money, a high-profile company, or just plain fun.

This week’s pick:  The Nickelodeon Writing Program

Description: This global initiative offers the successful applicant a salaried position with Nickelodeon for six months. They will spend three months in London gaining unique, hands-on experience writing scripts and pitching story ideas for both live action and animation. They will have the opportunity to nurture valuable relationshipswith creators, network executives, writers and showrunners from all around the world, whilst also gaining first-hand insight into the industry and undertaking specialist training activities to develop their craft. And that’s not all… They will also get to spend three months in the US at the Nickelodeon studio in Los Angeles, including a full writers’ room experience and mentorship from some of the best in the business.

So, what’s so great about it? This is nothing short of an amazing opportunity for those who are serious about writing for US television. Not only will the successful applicant get to spend three months in London with Nickelodeon, learning about the industry whilst earning a salary but they’ll then get to jet off to LA for another three months of specialist training. For the right candidate this could be a life changing opportunity but it is also a seriously big commitment – so if you’re looking to start 2016 with a bang, then this could be the one! Writers do need to submit a full spec script for one of the shows listed in the advertisement so getting your application together will definitely be a challenge – but you’ve got until 28 February to pull something out of the bag.
