King’s Theatre seeking scripts for annual 10-Minute Play Festival (Canada, $10 entry fee, prizes available)

King’s Theatre in Annapolis Royal is now accepting scripts for its tenth annual Festival of 10-minute plays scheduled for June 17, 18 and 19, 2016 at the Theatre. All scripts submitted will be reviewed by the Play Selection Committee and eight will be selected for production at the June Festival. 

Eligibility:  All are welcome (including UK Playwrights) and invited to participate, even if you have never written a script before.

Entry fee: Plays must be submitted with a non-refundable $10 entry fee per script (cheques payable to King’s Theatre).

Prizes: Of the eight selected scripts, first and second place winners will be awarded $200 and $100, respectively as judged by Theatre Nova Scotia. The coveted People’s Choice Award goes to the best play as determined by the audiences at the three performances.

What to submit: Plays must meet the following criteria: 

  • 10 minutes in length or less (when read), can be any genre (comedy, tragedy, etc.).
  • Requires small number of characters (1 – 6) and simple production set.
  • All plays must be original, never having been previously produced in any form.
  • Plays can be any genre (comedy, tragedy, etc.)

How to apply:  Plays must be submitted in hardcopy, and postmarked no later than January 8, 2016.     1. Hi Valerie, We’d recommend you contact the organizers directly (we’ve just reposted this opportunity, this isn’t something we are running). It’s definitely open to US writers, but we aren’t sure what the guidelines are about previous rehearsed readings. Good luck!
