BBC Radio 2 seeking official Artist in Residence for £20,000 bursary

From Glastonbury to Young Chorister of the Year, event programming on BBC Radio 2 is certainly eclectic and varied. Now, Britain’s most listened to radio station is looking for an official Artist-in-Residence to tell its story over the next 12 months in art.

Claudia Winkleman unveiled details on her weekly arts show. In association with digital arts website The Space, the BBC Radio 2 Artist-in-Residence will get a golden pass to attend Radio 2 events for a year, whether that’s Cambridge Folk Festival, Proms in the Park or Friday Night is Music Night. In return, Radio 2 will ask them to create a minimum of four artistic responses across the year.

Eligibility:  Are you an artist and think this is for you? You can work in any medium – you could be a poet, a sculptor, a painter, or a multi-media artist – but there will need to be a digital aspect to the presentation of the work you devise as the work will be showcased on the Radio 2 websiteBBC Arts Online and The Space.

What you get:  The Space will provide a bursary of £15,000 and will separately cover all materials and expenses up to a maximum budget of £20,000, so this is not a scheme to be sniffed at!

And there’s more….your work will be judged by one of the UK’s most iconic artists, Sir Peter Blake; and should you be successful in your application, we have secured leading figures in the world of Arts to offer their services as a mentor.

What to submit:  Applicants are required to submit:

  • Your CV
  • An example of your work, either written or a photo
  • A written submission of 500 words on why you’d like this position, and why you believe your work is relevant and suitable for the R2 audience. Look at the wide range of R2 events in 2014 and explain what treatment you might consider in covering one of those
  • A budget for the proposed treatment of this event
