The Young Friends of the Almeida’s Creative Board are producing a series of artistic development workshops for writers, directors and stage managers. In this series of workshops they are focusing on equipping emerging writers with the tools needed to actively pursue a career in the arts. They are therefore offering 12 of you the chance to participate in 8 skill-building sessions.
You will train under the guidance of a professional writer, where you will develop a short script over the course of the workshops and receive advice from specialists on your work. This piece of new writing will respond to traditional devices and themes of Ancient Greek literature. We welcome writers of all disciplines and styles, including those who are interested in writing for multiple art forms such as dance, spoken word and performance art.
On completion of these workshops, 5 of the 12 scripts will be commissioned in our summer project of new writing, produced by the YFA Creative Board, as part of the Almeida’s upcoming Greek Season. If selected for the project, each of the 5 chosen YFA writers will be assigned to a company made up of one YFA director and one YFA stage manager, who will have undergone similar training in artistic development workshops, to collaborate with you in the staging and production of your script. The Directors and Stage Management workshops will be announced at a later date.
We are looking for writers with a strong desire to develop their craft, and who would greatly benefit from being a part of these skill development workshops. A vast amount of previous experience is not necessary, we are more concerned with how you as a writer would benefit from these workshops, not what you have done in the past.
