Lincolnshire-based cultural solutions UK is one of 49 organisations from across the country awarded a grant from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Authorities to highlight the story and legacy of MV Empire Windrush.
cultural solutions UK wishes to commission a suitably experienced and passionate writer from the Caribbean Diaspora based in the UK to write three monologues in the form of letters. These monologues to be performed by actors and recorded for inclusion on www.windrushlincoln.today and made available for Black History Month 2020.
How would you feel arriving in Britain from the Caribbean in the 1950s or 60s? What would a letter to your family ‘back home’ tell of your first few weeks in the ‘mother country’? How might your family respond to your much anticipated letter?
cultural solutions UK is curating a programme of commissions and monologues, testimonials from Caribbean elders, an anthology of young people’s writing, a suite of news stories written by children and young people from the Young Journalists Academy; a tree planting ceremony, and a suite of educational resources, all to be produced for inclusion and accessible online. The website went live on National Windrush Day, 22 June 2020, with digital content available for Black History Month.
This work is offered as a freelance contract for a fee of £1050.00 inc for three ‘letters’ (up to three minutes each).
