The VAULT Festival New Writers Programme offers a total introduction to writing for stage! Taking place at VAULT Festival 2020 (28 January – 22 March) this eight week practical course will start right at the beginning, guiding you through the basics of playwriting in a non-patronising and inclusive way.
Prospective writers over the age of 18, who have an interest in writing for the stage but who have never had a full-length play staged before.
Absolute beginners are strongly encouraged to apply and we are particularly keen to hear from people whose backgrounds make it difficult for them to break into the creative industries.
What it involves: Six selected participants will receive mentoring and support to draft a 60 minute piece for stage. The programme is made up of weekly 3-hour sessions, which take place every Saturday at VAULT Festival 2020.
A 10 minute extract will be guest directed, produced and performed at a showcase evening on 22nd March 2020 at VAULT Festival to an audience made up of invited industry and the public.
The VAULT New Writers Programme offers a total introduction to writing for stage and is therefore not a programme for people who have previously had a full length play staged before or have taken part in writing courses.
Who’s behind it: The VAULT New Writers Programme has been designed and developed by playwright and screenwriter Camilla Whitehill (Where Do Little Birds Go?, Mr Incredible, Freeman) in partnership with VAULT Festival, and is proudly supported by theatre publishers and performing rights agents Nick Hern Books. This year’s programme will be led by OFFIE Award nominated playwright Guleraana Mir (Coconut and BBC Writer’s Room) with guest workshops by leading theatre practitioners.
