  1. Are there any criteria for the plays beyond the length and the cast size? Is Voices from Home a theme, for instance, or is that just a title for the event?

    1. This is all the information they have on their website. Voices from Home is the name of the event as they run it annually using this name I believe.

  2. It’s disappointing that the company haven’t ‘broken silence’ by responding to these comments themselves. That doesn’t encourage me to submit to them.

  3. And, Kimberley, I don’t think you should be replying on a company’s behalf when a query is addressed to them. London Playwrights does an excellent job and I wouldn’t like to see its reputation tarnished by baling out companies when their practices are sloppy.

  4. We can confirm there’s no set theme for the festival. As this isn’t our website, and we didn’t know the opportunity was posted here, we don’t receive any form of notification regarding comments or submission questions.

    1. Thank you so much for replying on here and clarifying this.

And yes, just to second that the organisers of opportunities don’t always know we’ve posted on here (since we often simply share things we’ve found in the public domain). So it’s not a reflection of the company’s communication skills if they do not reply via this forum.

As a rule we do avoid answering questions on the company’s behalf to avoid misinforming our readers, however, I have posted about this event in previous years and I was confident that Voices from Home was the name of the festival as it has been previously. I double checked on their website and saw no mention of a theme which confirmed to me that this information was correct.

I am glad this has all been cleared up now and good luck to all those submitting!

      Best,
      Kimberley

      1. That’s right, the event is called Voices from Home because the company, who is based in the South East, is looking for writers from the South East. Plays can be on any theme.

Hope that helps and good luck with your submission!
