Sharp Scratches seeking shorts which tackle theme of mental health

Sharp Scratches is an evening of new writing, for their next show this will be at Theatre Deli, The Old Library, London SE5.

Each night of new writing has a theme and edition. For their 24th February night they are looking for short scripts, extracts and spoken word that tackle mental health. They want scripts that reflect the entire spectrum of mental health. Submissions from BAME and LGBTQ+ writers are strongly encouraged.

Whether it’s your first script or your 100th they want to hear from you.

What they want:

  • Pieces of theatre or extracts or spoken word no longer than 15 minutes in duration. If you are submitting an entire longer script you need to specify the extract you want to submit for performance as they do not have the readers to read entire full-length scripts.
  • Maximum 3 characters unless actors playing multiple roles is possible. If so please specify in your email.

How to apply: Scripts should be emailed to sharpscratches@gmail.com with the title of your play in the subject. You must also include a short synopsis, including cast list and a little bit about yourself as a writer. Submissions without this information in the body of the email will be disregarded.

A group of readers will shortlist the 6 chosen pieces and they will be then be cast and directed for performance. Writers are welcome to attend rehearsals.

Deadline: 2 February 2019 at 3pm

      Hi Rob,

I’d recommend contacting the organisers directly with any questions However, just to clarify that Sharp Scratches is the name of the company and it specialises in scratch nights which I imagine is why they chose the name. (The theme of mental health is just for this particular call out as each event has a different theme) – hope that helps a bit!
