Women’s Writing Workshop with Actor Awareness (University Women in the Arts)

University Women In the Arts, the mentoring scheme to improve the transition for women from studying the arts to working in the arts, has announced the first in a series of events with partner organisations to help tackle abuse in the arts. This will lead towards the publication of a book to provide a platform for female arts students voices to be heard, alongside a toolkit for use by teachers at school and university level or for use by students on their own to help equip students to deal with, tackle and help eradicate bullying, abuse and harassment in the arts.

This is a free writing workshop run in partnership with Actor Awareness and sudsidised by Art School to ensure access. This workshop is aimed particularly at working class female arts students and recent graduates as well as female arts students and recent graduates from low income backgrounds.

The workshop will cover: 

  • Writing exercises and a toolkit to help you create your submission for the project and share your views on abuse in the arts – this will include Ideas, Structure and Rewriting (1 hour)
  • Feedback on your submission for the book (1 hour)
  • Advice on the issue of abuse in the arts and how to tackle bullying, abuse and harassment and an opportunity to offer your views on what you feel should be in the toolkit to be included in the book (1 hour)
