This week’s pick: Mercury/ Weinberger Playwriting Prize 2018 announced!
Description: Mercury Theatre Colchester & Josef Weinberger Ltd are joining forces to discover the very best and most diverse new British theatre writing talent from across the UK.
The Mercury/Weinberger Playwriting Prize will be looking for previously unperformed plays that have the ambition, appeal and theatricality to fill larger theatres, with the desire of getting the very best new work published and into production over the next few years.
What’s so great about it? This one has a pretty hefty prize for the winner – a cash prize of £5,000, a publishing deal with Josef Weinberger Ltd and the possibility of a full production at the Mercury Theatre. In addition to this, there will also be a Future Voice award which recognises talent for 16-25 year olds – the winner of this prize will win £500 and a rehearsed reading of their script. Not only that, but Lyn Gardner has been confirmed as one of the judges! If you fancy giving this a go, you’ve got until 20 July to enter – good luck!
