Live Theatre & Northumbria University Writer in Residence 2018-19 (£20,000)

Live Theatre, a new writing theatre with an international reputation, which has just been nominated for its third Olivier Award for one of its plays, and Northumbria University, Newcastle; nominated for the prestigious University of the Year award in Times Higher Education (THE) Awards 2017, are seeking to appoint an experienced playwright for a dynamic and exciting twelve-month residency, beginning in September 2018.

This residency programme, now in its third year, is a unique opportunity for a playwright with a proven track record of writing for theatre/performance to work across both organisations.

Structure:  The residency programme will be flexible, based on the successful candidate’s other commitments, and aims to be tailored to the skills and interests of the successful applicant, however the scope of the programme will be structured around following activities and outcomes:

  • To work alongside Live Theatre’s creative team in the planning and delivery of creative programmes including active participation in the delivery of the theatre’s artist development programme.
  • Research and develop an idea for a play that responds to Live Theatre’s mission and identity. It is envisaged that this may lead to a commissioning opportunity with Live Theatre outside of the scope of the residency.
  • Take a significant role in the creation of a new work developed with and performed by Northumbria University Newcastle Performing Arts students at Live Theatre, and contribute to the collaborative research culture of the University.
  • Contribute to the teaching and learning of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including the delivery and co-delivery of masterclasses in writing and associated theatre/performance disciplines.

For full details, please see the online description from Live Theatre.

Residency Fee: £20,000

What to submit/How to apply: To apply for this residency, please email a CV and an expression of interest outlining how the residency would support your practice as a writer, and how you would approach the proposed residency activities and outcomes by email to  jobs@live.org.uk with Writer in Residence in the subject title.

Interviews will take place Thursday 3 May 2018.

Deadline: Friday 20 April 2018 at 5pm
