Opportunities – Pick of the Week: The Papatango New Writing Prize 2018

Each week we look through our pile of writing opportunities to pick out one we think is particularly worth your time. It could be an innovative brief, great prize money, a high-profile company, or just plain fun.

This week’s pick: The Papatango New Writing Prize 2018

Description: The Papatango New writing Prize is now open for entries!

Every year Papatango announce their New Writing Prize, where they have an open submission window. After going through the many submission they receive, one winner will be chosen and will be awarded a 4-week production of their piece at Southwark Playhouse in autumn 2018. The script will be published by Nick Hern Books. The writer will receive a royalty of 10% of the gross box office income. Following the production, the writer will be paid a £6000 commission to create a new play with development support from Papatango.

The competition is open to anyone resident in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland only.

There is no age limit.

There is no minimum or maximum level of experience required to enter. All you need is a story.

What’s so great about it? This is a great opportunity to not only get a full-length piece of work produced at the Southwark Playhouse, but it’s also an opportunity to work with the team at Papatango.

Along with the production of your piece, you will receive publication and a commissioning fee for your next play, all with the help of Papatango.

All scripts submitted to the Prize will also receive personal feedback over summer 2018 (once the shortlist and winner have been announced).

So, if this sounds like the opportunity for you, you have until 28 February 2018 to apply!
