Aurora Theatre company seeks plays for The Global Age Project (entry fee)

The Global Age Project is Aurora Theatre Company’s annual new writing festival. The festival takes place at the Aurora Theatre, California and seeks to explore the 21st century and beyond. They are looking for plays that directly respond to our complicated present and our possible futures. Plays do not have to be directly about science or technology but plays set in a historical time period (prior to the year 2000) will not be considered.
Additional information:
  • There is an entry fee of $20.
  • Plays shorter than 45 minutes/ pages will not be considered.
  • Plays that have already received a professional production are not eligible.
  • They will only accept one submission per writer.

 

How to apply: Applications can be made via the Aurora Theatre’s website where there is an application form to fill in (including a short synopsis of your play and biography) and they will ask you to upload a copy of your script.

2013 Kudos/ Bush Initiative now accepting applications

After a successful first year, award winning production company, Kudos, has teamed up with The Bush Theatre in an initiative that aims to develop emerging writing talent. The initiative will take writers from across the UK and challenge the way they approach storytelling through workshops, discussion sessions and mentoring from some of the leading lights in the industry.

Further information: The initiative will take place in the week of the 28 October 2013

How to apply: Applicants should submit a CV along with 100 words on why they should be considered via their agent to Kudosbush@kudos.co.uk.

International Student Playscript Competition now open for submissions

The International Student Playscript Competition (ISPC) is a playwright competition open to anyone aged 16 to 25 based anywhere in the world. It is free to enter and there are no restrictions on form, content, or length, except that it must be a new play, or adaptation, and it should be written in English.

The winner of the competition will receive constructive feedback, £500 prize money and mentoring from an established playwright. The winning script will also receive a workshop with a professional director at the National Student Drama Festival 2014.

Papatango seeking resident playwright

Multi-award winning new writing company, Papatango are inviting applications for
the new position of resident playwright. The chosen writer will be commissioned to deliver a full-length play by June 2014. Papatango will provide full development support, consisting of mentoring, script development sessions with professional writers, free creative space and rehearsed readings, with the ambition of taking the play on to a full production at the end of the process.
Additional information: As part of the Residency, Papatango will be applying for a BBC Theatre Fellowship. As the chosen writer will be the proposed beneficiary, they will need to supply supporting materials for the application. Should this be successful, Papatango will be able to offer the writer a full fee.

How to apply: Please send a CV and short cover letter (no more than one side of A4), outlining why you would like the position and the difference it would make to your career to scripts@papatango.co.uk

In association with Blueeyes productions, BY JOVE! are hosting ‘Loveart’, a brand new monthly arts event in Bethnal Green and they are looking for submissions. There is no set theme but they seeking inspired, relevant, and vibrant new voices.

They are looking for one act plays or scenes with a maximum length of ten minutes. They are also accepting poetry, spoken word, music and short films.

Heavy Weather Theatre accepting short play submissions

Heavy Weather Theatre are now accepting short play submissions for their night at the Park Theatre this August. They are looking for two writers to join their existing team of four. The performances will take place on Tuesday 13th and Wednesday 14th August.

Plays should be ten minutes long, with minimal tech requirements and with a same-sex relationship at its core. They are looking for exciting, dynamic writing that would work well in the Park’s studio theatre.

How to apply: Please submit your play to heavyweathertheatre@gmail.com. Alternatively, you can submit an example of a previous short play with a detailed synopsis of your idea for this.

Riff Raff Productions seek submissions for new writing and art project

 

Lost Shoes is an art and new-writing project which will take place in London in September 2013. Writers are invited to write a short new play inspired by an image taken from the twitter feed @abandonedshoes. Alongside this, artists will be invited to decorate, rework or repurpose an old shoe. The work will be showcased in a pop-up gallery as part of the London Design Festival 2013.

‘A half glanced child’s sandal in the hedge. Men’s dress shoes neatly paired behind an industrial estate. A broken ballet pump in the gutter. Deliberately placed or abandoned in haste – how did they get there? We’ve all seen them, perhaps out of the corner of our eyes, but what are their stories?’

How to apply: Play submissions should be no longer than 15 minutes in length and able to be performed with minimal set, prop and costumes. Please complete a Submission Form and send with your script to info@riffraffproductions.co.uk
